
Ceremonies and memories Sunday 13th January 2013 on Giglio Island, in commemoration of the 1st anniversary of the Costa Concordia shipwreck. The ceremony will commence at 8 am with the laying of the rock torn from the ship’s keel, at its original location at the Scole, with a commemorative plate. Subsequently a wreath will be laid at Punta Gabbianara.
The Sung Mass in memory of the victims will instead be celebrated by the Bishop of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello, Guglielmo Borghetti, on the Giglio, at 11 am in the Church of Saints Laurence and Maximilian, where many of the shipwrecked victims sought refuge on the night of January 13, a year ago.
Always in the afternoon, a concert will be held at 6pm at Giglio Castello,in the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, in solidarity of the victims, whereas at 9.45pm, at the time the collision took place, a minute of silence will be maintained followed by the ringing of the boat sirens in the port and the launching of floating lanterns .
